Out-going form four Chiwale Secondary school open scholars have appealed to the government to increase number of schools in Neno in a bid to increase school enrollment and raise education standards.
A form four prefect, Shepard Chibwana told Zodiak Online today during their send off that a lot of youngsters fail to complete secondary education due to long distances hence their appeal.
He said that it was their wish to see many enrolling into day secondary schools saying a lot are dropping out of school due to long distances and the time that Open scholars start their studies.
“I want to ask the government to improve access to education by among other things constructing us more secondary schools and I thank Chiwale Secondary school management for letting us use the library and other services here which is rare”, said the prefect.
Guest of honor at the event Russel Msiska who is the Executive Director of Beyond Our Hearts Foundation reminded the students of their impending June 27,2023 MSCE examination and refrain from immoral behaviors that might disturb their studies.
He told the learners that the testimonials received are not a gate pass but they should militarily equip themselves with the knowledge imparted by their teachers so that they pass with flying colors.
” I went to Mzuzu government school and fees was a challenge, I used to attend school in rags but see me now, I persevered and I am managing a big organization here in Neno, take it as an example”, said Msiska.
He then promised a K500 thousand cash to all Open section learners who will score below 10 points in the Malawi School Certificate of Education examination which starts on 27 June, 2923 with practical papers.
He also announced that he has secured international donors who have committed to sponsoring twenty learners with tertiary education.
Presenting his words of encouragement, Headteacher for the school Louis Chabwera says their school is providing access of library and Internet for learning to both Day and Open scholars as a means of leveling the education field.
” I want to encourage you to work extra hard in these last few days you have and our hope is that you will prove people wrong that Open scholars can’t make it”, said Chabwera.
Open school coordinator Robert Mathews said that five leavers went to different public universities last year from Chiwale Secondary school Open section.
He added that 115 learners were graduating on Sunday which were presented with testimonials as part of recognising that they have completed form four classes.
